  2. DC120 CAMERA UPDATE SOFTWARE README

  7. The DC120 Camera Update Software is used to update the DC120 camera 
  8. firmware.
  9.  
  10. UPDATE PROCEDURE
  11. To update your DC120 camera:
  12.  
  13. 1.    Copy all pictures from your camera to your computer. The pictures may be
  14.         lost if you do not copy them to the computer. If the memory card is inserted
  15.         in the camera, remove it.
  16.  
  17. 2.    Verify that the DC120 camera is properly connected to your computer serial
  18.         port. 
  19.  
  20.         NOTE:  Turn AppleTalk off.
  21.  
  22. 3.    In the DC120 Updater folder, double-click the Updater icon.
  23.  
  24. 4.    In the Connect Port dialog box, select the appropriate serial port, and
  25.         then click OK.
  26.  
  27. NOTE:  Once you click Continue to start the update process, you cannot stop the
  28. process. To quit the Updater at this time without changing the firmware,
  29. click Quit.
  30.  
  31. 5.    Click Continue. 
  32.  
  33. 6.    Double-click the firmware file. 
  34.  
  35. 7.    When the Updater is finished, close the DC120 camera front cover to properly
  36.         complete the installation.
  37.     
  38. 8  The first time you turn on the camera after downloading firmware,
  39.     the camera displays "FORMAT MEMORY ALL PICTURES WILL BE ERASED".
  40.     Please push ENTER button to format camera memory. 
  41.  
  42. NOTE: If the Updater fails, check the DC120 camera serial port connection and 
  43. then follow the retry procedure below.
  44.  
  45. RETRY PROCEDURE
  46. If you receive a message that the DC120 camera update was not successful, 
  47. follow the procedure below to manually prepare the DC120 camera for
  48. updating:
  49.  
  50. 1.    Close the camera front cover. 
  51.     
  52. 2.    Completely power off the camera. If you are using:
  53.     
  54.         •    An AC adapter. Disconnect the AC adapter and also remove the camera
  55.                 batteries. Reconnect the adapter and insert the batteries in the camera.
  56.    
  57.         •    Batteries only. Remove the batteries from the camera and then insert the
  58.                 batteries in the camera.
  59.  
  60. 3.    Connect the serial cable to the camera and the computer.
  61.     
  62. 4.    Press and hold down the camera TAB and ENTER buttons, and open the camera
  63.         front cover.
  64.  
  65. 5.    Double-click the DC120 Updater icon.
  66.     
  67. 6.    In the Connect Port dialog box, select the appropriate serial port, and then
  68.         click OK.
  69.  
  70.         NOTE:    Once you start the update process, you cannot stop the process. To quit
  71.         the Updater at this time without changing the firmware, click Quit.

  73. 7.    Click Continue.

  75. 8.    Double-click the firmware file. 
  76.  
  77. 9.    When the Updater is finished, close the DC120 camera front cover to properly
  78.         complete the installation.

  80. If you are still not successful in updating the camera firmware, do the following:
  81.  
  82. 1.    Open the camera front cover and connect the serial cable to the camera and
  83.         the computer.
  84.  
  85. 2.    Completely power off the camera. If you are using:
  86.  
  87.         •    An AC adapter. Disconnect the AC adapter and also remove the camera
  88.                 batteries. Press and hold down the camera TAB and ENTER buttons, and
  89.                 reconnect the adapter and insert the batteries in the camera.
  90.  
  91.         •    Batteries only. Remove the batteries from the camera. Press and hold
  92.                 down the camera TAB and ENTER buttons, and insert the batteries in the
  93.                 camera.
  94.  
  95. 3.    Repeat steps 5 through 9 in the Retry Procedure.

  98. FAX/MODEM SOFTWARE
  99. If you have fax/modem software installed on your computer, you may find
  100. the software interferes with communicating with the camera. For example, 
  101. some FAX software extensions acquire the modem port at startup. 
  102.  
  103. If you experience a problem communicating with the camera, make sure no other 
  104. applications or system extensions are using that port.
  105.  
  106. CONNECTING THE CAMERA TO THE MACINTOSH COMPUTER
  107. PowerPc. If you are using System 7.5, you should install the System 7.5 Update 
  108. 1.0, which fixes some of the PowerPC serial port problems.
  109.  
  110. PowerBook. If you are using a PowerBook (for example, models 160 or 180),
  111. connect your camera to the Modem port to ensure proper communication. If 
  112. you connect the camera to an internal modem, make sure that the modem
  113. Control Panel setting for emulating the Modem port is turned off.
  114.  
  115. Printer port. If you connect the camera to the Printer port, turn AppleTalk 
  116. off in the Chooser.
